Encourage yourself in all situations with the mindset that you’re your own motivator and inspirer.

I’m sure you’re wondering why I chose this topic to write about. You’re not far from wrong and you might think it’s a bit ambiguous. Yes, I own it. Lol.

During my short span in this world, I mean I’m not too old and not too young too, but I’ve come to realise how people blackmail others in the name of — “if you don’t give me this or that” — I will expose your secret to the public. So, do you have to fear man? (referring to both sexes, I’m sorry if you’d think that I’m been sexist but far from it. I’m not).

Now, let me proceed. In this world, “nobody can tell the mind’s construction in the face”, the sages say. It’s therefore difficult to know what people are thinking when you’re confiding in them knowing that you have absolute confidence that no one will ever hear your secret. You can’t be too sure!

If I lose you as a lover, I don’t gain you as an enemy. If I also lose you as a friend; I don’t also gain you as an enemy. Life still goes on. So, don’t abuse people’s trust and confidence in you when you fall out or go your separate ways or when things don’t work out. It doesn’t mean that you have the right to expose the secret.

I’m not referring to a “non-disclosure agreement”. I don’t believe in that, it’s even dead-on-arrival. If the person wants to let the cat out of the bag, he or she doesn’t care about any agreement. But if it’s from the depth of morality and of a good conscience, the person might probably exercise that, knowing perfectly well that “do unto others what you want others to do unto you”, as the old saying goes which is very true even today.

The question now is, do I tell my every secret to somebody I trust or love so dearly with the mindset that someday it wouldn’t be in the court of public opinion where there are multitudes of judges and a legion of lawyers? My answer to this timeless question is, “own your secret”. What do I mean? Any secret that you think you don’t want to be in public, don’t tell anyone. Keep it. But any secret that you tell people, know that it stands one hundred per cent chance that it might one day explode. Share your deepest secret when you know that if it’s even shared in public someday, you can boldly say that, yes, I did it and not be ashamed of it.

Many suicides that happen are because of the 100% trust people have in their confidant who sometimes betrays them leading to psychological trauma. In the end, they commit suicide.

When your secret is out: don’t worry, don’t panic, tell the person in the face that, thank you, but I’m not perfect and everyone makes mistakes and this is my mistake; my past. I did it and I own it. Encourage yourself in all situations with the mindset that you’re your own motivator and inspirer. This is a valuable lesson you’ll learn about people.

Don’t harbour hatred in your heart. Let it go. Although that secret is out, you did it and you own it.

Don’t be intimidated by people who threaten you to expose your secret. Don’t beg them or pay any money to them. You know what? They are rather exposing their own mediocrity and they’re making you a hero.

Once again, “own your secret”.
